St. Monica School and Parish are blessed to have a Giving Garden. This piece of land is a space where flowers, herbs, fruits, and vegetables have grown for years. One key goal in 2025 was to integrate students into the garden in alignment with academics and physical and mental wellness.
In spring 2025, we partnered with a teacher to facilitate ten life science lessons, rooted in literacy-rich experiences, to learn about how to grow plants and how plants are part of an ecosystem where they can either struggle or thrive.
In summer 2025, we operated two summer sessions of our Glow & Grow Camp at St. Monica. The campers picked up where the spring students left off before the school year ended. They learned gardening skills, read books about growing food, science, and nature, and learned how to work in community with others. Of course, they made harvest recipes and tasted items from the garden.
Now, the work continues with the Fall Glow & Grow Garden Club. Twice a week after school during the fall season, these students are continuing the work of the summer campers. They are learning gardening skills, making recipes, learning how to work in community with others, engaging in activities to help regulate their emotions, and learning how to prepare a garden for winter time.
Below are videos from the first week of Garden Club.
